Writing for the next release – here’s the latest:  On to Something.  Although, I’ve played it fast during a bunch of live shows, I think I prefer the slow version that’s in the video.   I’ll continue to make some stripped down recordings of the new stuff so you all can check out what’s coming down the pipeline.   Thanks for listening.

I know there are a lot of borrowers out there who were greedy and got burned because of it. This family, however, was not one of those borrowers.

Essentially, this family trusted the lender and was taken advantage of. The family was persuaded to “lock in” a variable rate loan because of its “favorable” terms. Because of the “favorable” terms, of course, the lender told the family they could borrow much more money than, in reality, the family should have.

The lender prospered by exploiting families like this – actually saying in the interview how he and buddies would fly to Vegas, go to the best clubs, etc. etc.

Not surprisingly, the family’s home was foreclosed after their interest rate was “reset” according to the terms of the loan.

The interview had a profound effect on me and inspired me to write a song about this American tragedy.  It’s called “Love, Your Broken Home.”

Alright – on to music stuff.  I was in Austin last week for the RedGorilla Music Fest – it was great – tons of musicians there for the whole SXSW thing so it’s a total music buffet – a great opportunity to bar hop and see lots of different music in a short time.

After the show we went to a very cool bar called Clive- I will definitely be going back next time I’m in Austin.  After Clive, we hit up a food stand called Kabobalicious and called it a night.

This past week I was in the studio re-tracking some stuff from the first album – just completely stripped it down. I’ll be creating a new section on the site where you can check it out soon.

Alright – that’s it for now – I’ve got a show and need to get on over to the venue.

Just landed back in Dallas last night after a week in the Southeast. Below is the recap…

2/13: Flew in to Atlanta, picked up the tour bus from Hertz and headed to the hotel.

After we checked in to the hotel and grabbed a quick bite to eat, we headed out to the first show at the Java Monkey in Decatur.

2/14: Headed to Nashville for the night.

2/15: Made our way east to Johnson City, TN for the show at the Acoustic Coffeehouse.

The Acoustic Coffeehouse – great beer, great food and games. After my set, I played chess with a local. She was super cool.

2/16: Headed to North Carolina, ate lunch in Winston-Salem and then stopped in Raleigh for the night.

2/17: Continued east to Greenville, NC for the show at the Tipsy Teapot.

Loved this place – very cool listening room – no sound system required.

2/18: Left Greenville and made a pit stop by my friend’s school. He teaches seventh grade and invited me to stop by and play for his class – they rock.

After leaving the school we headed down to Charleston, SC and checked in to a hotel.

2/19: Got up bright and early and headed to the local ABC studio for LowCountry Live. Some pics from sound check. . .

After LowCountry Live we headed back in to town and grabbed some eats. After lunch, we headed out on a new little adventure. Be sure to watch the guy in the background on the bike.

After the laundry adventure, we headed out for the Palmetto Acoustic Series at Muddy Waters.

2/20: Packed up and headed out of town. We had a day to kill before we needed to fly out of Atlanta so we decided to swing by Savannah, GA.

I fell in love with it.

Hope the holiday season is treating you well – I’ll be spending Christmas day down here in Dallas but am heading up to NY on the 27th to visit the family and get my fix of some cold weather.  A reminder to those flying American Airlines this month; remember – go old school, plug your headphones into the arm rest and check out Paste Magazine’s station (Paste Beat).  I think it’s channel 5; Anyway, “Say Hello” is one of the featured tracks for December.  Below is this month’s magazine cover and info on Paste Beat (click on the links for a readable version).

Other than that, I’ve just been writing – the first song for the third album is now done.  No title yet but I’ll keep you posted on that front.  Regarding shows – I’m heading over to the Southeast this February.  If I’m passing through a town close to you – come on out.  Hope all is well.

What the hell is Paste?  

Well, Paste is pretty much the coolest music magazine out there.  Honestly – see for yourself.  

Okay, well what does it mean to be a Paste Recommends artist?  

This means that “Adelaide” will be featured for the month of July at Paste Recommends listening stations in participating independent records stores throughout the country.  

Where are these stores?  

The Paste stores are sprinkled throughout the country –  you can find the stores on the Paste website – just click on the map.  You can also check out this doc (paste-recommends-stores); It lists all the stores that have a Paste listening station.  I would definitely check out the Paste website though – it’s much cooler. 

Anyway, check the map or the doc – if there is a store near you; stop by and pick up a copy of “Adelaide.”  If you already have a copy of the album, go to the store anyway and get one for your friend.

My name is Tim Miller and I’m a singer/songwriter based in Dallas.  With respect to the music – think a young Bruce Springsteen possibly, with touches of David Gray and Ari Hest.  Kind of acoustically driven indie pop I guess.  Anyway, my second CD “Adelaide” just released on May 6th – it was produced by Dallas’ own Chris Bell (Erykah Badu, Polyphonic Spree, Eagles) and mastered by Adam Ayan (Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Phish, Ani DiFranco).  

So, the concept of an album has always appealed to me; I have some really fond memories of going through my older siblings’ record collections, throwing on the headphones, flipping through the album jacket and getting lost in a collection of songs.  As far as I’m concerned, that’s a great way to spend some time indeed.  Regardless of the fact that singles currently dominate the market, it was the goal of creating an album that guided Chris and me in the making of “Adelaide.”  Essentially we got some tape, Chris got his hands on some very cool vintage instruments and we went to work.  

That being said, I think the best place to listen to “Adelaide” is on one of those long car rides by yourself or with a close friend.  Better yet, go old school – pop on some headphones some lazy afternoon or late at night when distractions are at a minimum and listen to it start to finish.  I’m pretty sure you’ll find yourself in a song or two.
